Sugaring began hundreds of years ago in the Arabic countries. Women at that time did not have the soaps and deodorants we have today, but they found that by removing their pubic and underarm hair they could stay fresher and cleaner. So they developed sugar paste.
Sugaring was so successful it became completely embedded in their culture, and still to this day in some Arabic countries as soon as girls reach puberty they are prepared for marriage by being sugared from head to toe. All their bodily hair is removed, apart from their eyebrows, eyelashes and the hair on their head! They are then regularly sugared, to maintain themselves hair-free, until they reach the age of about 30, when they find they no longer grow any hair!
Sugaring was brought to the United Kingdom in 1984 by a Tunisian lady who came to live here and was amazed to find that there was nobody available to sugar her. She started to train people in this ancient technique, and hence sugaring in the UK was born.
